About us, our services

A pearl farm in the heart of the Pacific

In the middle of one of the largest lagoons on the planet, on the atoll of Rangiroa in French Polynesia, Gauguin’s Pearl cultivates the Tahitian pearl, a gem of deep, shifting colours found nowhere else in the world.

Our story

More than thirty years of experience in Rangiroa

Rangiroa belongs to the Tuamotu archipelago, around 300 km from Tahiti. It is a vast atoll renowned for its lagoon and for some of the finest dive sites in the Pacific. With a maritime concession of more than 400 hectares, the farm grows its oysters in a pristine environment, where the turquoise waters of the Tuamotu offer ideal conditions for the pearl oyster to thrive.

What are Tahitian pearls?

Tahitian cultured pearls are grown inside the black-lipped pearl oyster (Pinctada margaritifera), found in the lagoons of French Polynesia. Their colours are entirely natural and require no treatment, ranging from peacock and fly-wing green to silvery grey and aubergine. Each pearl takes several years to form, and no two are ever exactly alike, which makes every one a unique gem.

Do you offer Guided tours?

Yes. We run guided tours of the farm from Monday to Friday, at 9:30 am and 2:00 pm, lasting around 30 to 40 minutes. No reservation is needed, and a small fee is payable at the boutique on arrival (1,000 XPF per adult, 500 XPF per child under 12). The tour walks you through the whole pearl-farming process, from grafting to harvesting and sorting.

Can we buy at the boutique in Rangiroa?

Absolutely. Our boutique on the farm is open Monday to Friday, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. You will find a selection of loose pearls and jewellery mounted on site by our craftspeople, and our team is always happy to help you choose the right pearl.

Every Tahitian pearl is a unique gem. Its colours are entirely natural, with no treatment of any kind: from fly-wing green to peacock, from Poe Rava to aubergine, with silvery greys and rose overtones along the way. It is the surface, the lustre and the orient of the nacre that give each pearl its value. Shape, quality and diameter complete its character, and no two pearls are ever quite alike.

Testimonials from Google Local Guides

Client’s support is the Best Reward!

The farm tour is very interesting. The explanations are detailed and you really understand the scale of the work behind it all. As for the boutique, it’s truly lovely, there’s something for every taste and every budget. To those who find it expensive: compare elsewhere, think about the work involved, and maybe go for a necklace with 1 or 2 pearls rather than twenty.

We had a fascinating tour and received plenty of detailed explanations about pearl farming. The guide, who is bilingual in French and English, answered all our questions with kindness and precision. The boutique staff were very friendly and patient. They explained the quality of the pearls to us in detail. I bought some lovely souvenirs and found the perfect pearl that will always remind me of Rangiroa. I highly recommend a visit to this pearl farm!
