How to choose a Tahitian pearl

A Tahitian cultured pearl is unique and it is why it’s very difficult to obtain pairs that look alike. That said, there are several characteristics that define a Tahitian cultured pearl. The round pearl, for example, is the most sought after because it is represented as being the most perfect, but depending on each person’s taste, drop-shaped pearls are also very popular or even the keshis because of their uniqueness and small size.

Criteria for selecting a Tahitian pearl

  • Its color tone (from dark to very light or even golden, in shades of green, blue or purple)
  • Its shape (round, semi-round, semi-baroque, baroque, or keshis which have unique shapes)
  • Its size (mainly ranging from 8mm to 14mm but you can find round pearls up to 18mm!)
  • Its luster (sometimes a round pearl can lose commercial value just because of a dull luster)
