Pearls are among the most beautiful gems in the world. This is du partly because of the aspect of the pearls but also of their mysterious genesis. Indeed, they are the only gems produced by a living organism and theories trying to explain their birth are known from the Antiquity until today. If recently, man has mastered the pearl oysters cultivation, the enigma is still not totally resolved and scientists are always trying to understand the mechanisms allowing the birth of these gems.
In the following pages, we will revealed how we practice in our farm, here at Rangiroa from the young shells capture, their growth, the graft, the harvest of the tahitian pearls until their grading and setting as jewels.
